my first sound bath

I have a whole slew of posts in my drafts, but I decided to write a fun one. Because I do fun things allll the time. Why aren't I writing more about that?

Last night we went to our first sound bath ever. This event was produced by Denver Yoga Social and it was also our first event with them. They apparently do dozens of events every month. (I have my eye on the one at the Denver Aquarium or Yoga, Sake & Sushi)

Last weekend I made a candle over at the Creepatorium. Check out their events. I bet they've got some wacky stuff going on. The candle making was pretty tame, and honestly delightful. We were taught a bit about what the fragrances can invite into our lives as well as the flowers, herbs, and crystals. The invitation was there to infuse some magic into your candle, or you could just make a pretty candle. It was suggested that we save our candle to light with intention the night of the new moon which was last night. And heck yeah, I did.

I've since been fascinated with this idea of doing certain things or avoiding certain things based on the cycle of the moon. This makes sense to me. The same way it makes sense that I'm in rest mode during the winter and enjoy sitting at home, being warm and cozy, doing nothing the most during this time. It's another example of remembering how to be on this planet that our ancestors knew so well, and we've forgotten, coming back home to being a creature on this Earth.

Okay so I've gotten really into moon cycles, and this DYS (Denver Yoga Social) event was celebrating that. AND there was a sound bath! I've wanted to do a sound bath since I saw Eugene Levy do one on the show Reluctant Traveler. And maybe before that. It's been on my radar for a while. I was 100% in.

The venue was an old inn built in 1890. We had to climb up to the third floor, and we were warned about that. It was a beautiful space. And the snow was lightly falling outside, magical. There was a chandelier in the center of the room that, while not as grand, reminded me of Beauty and the Beast, one of my favorites. Fifty people crammed into that little room. There were a couple of young small humans. That probably helped a bit.

The sound bath was preformed by Christina of Kapwa Healing. I appreciated that she gave a land acknowledgement, a bit of background about how she got there, how her bowls got there, and some knowledge about the practice itself. I felt completely at ease to be in her hands for this journey.

And what a journey it was! I've been under the weather and my sinuses have been generally killing me during the day. I'm old(er) and laying on a hard wooden floor with only a thin yoga mat beneath me would usually cause me discomfort. All of that disappeared when the bowls started singing. Looking back, I can't believe I laid on my back for 40 minutes without adjusting! I found it to be similar to floating. I was able to relax into it, and sometimes I would rise to the surface, only to dive back in again. (Again with the cycles!) It wasn't an enlightenment, earthshattering experience. But it was something I would like to try again. Maybe when it's easy to breathe out of my nose!

Photo of the space with green red and blue lights on a pointed vaulted ceiling that has a faux candle chandelier hanging in the middle casting a crisp shadow on one of the ceiling walls. The floor and mantle of the fireplace on the left side of the room are lined with battery operated candles. Dan is on the very right side of the frame sitting on his yoga matt with his arm raised, and he's mostly a silhouette. In front of him is the slightly elevated area where the instructors sat although it's currently empty in the photo. We arrived very early and there are only 2 other people in the room when this photo was taken whereas later there would be 50.
